Eco Style Tuesday: Planting with Purpose for International Tree Day

Sunday 27 July was International Tree Day, and here in South Australia, we were gifted with the most beautiful rain — perfect for planting trees.
So yesterday, 28 July, I took that inspiration (and a trusty trowel!) and headed out to plant 50 Australian native trees and shrubs — all by hand. Less than an hour from Adelaide’s CBD, the land was lush and green, the creeks were running, and tiny lambs had just arrived — a truly heartwarming sight.
Each tree was carefully planted — clearing weeds, digging the hole, gently releasing the seedling, and tucking it into its new home. While the clouds hung low in the morning, the rain held off — the sun even came out to warm the earth just enough to help these young plants settle in. Today, a gentle drizzle is giving them the perfect drink to help them grow.
It was a joy to hear the birds sounds (parrots; kookaburra's) in the surrounding trees while planting — a reminder of who we’re doing this for. Not just ourselves, but for the future, and for our wildlife and birdlife who rely on healthy habitats.
If you haven’t yet experienced the magic of planting trees, I can’t recommend it enough. It’s grounding, meaningful, and so good for your wellbeing. Why not look into joining a community planting day, like those run by Bio·R & or grow trees from seedlings with Trees For Life (SA)?
Here are a few photos from my planting day — a little glimpse of how green and vibrant South Australia is looking right now.
And if you're planning a visit to SA soon, why not stay in one of our award-winning homes away from home — knowing you’re supporting a proudly South Australian business that’s actively giving back to the environment.
Relax, unwind, and explore — all while making a difference.
