Eco Style Tuesday - Sometimes nature stops you in your tracks… and this little moment in the Flinders Ranges did exactly that

Recently, we captured this beautiful Southern Rock Skink perched quietly on a sun-warmed rock — soaking up the morning light, watchful, still, and completely at home in its rugged surroundings.
What we love about these little locals is not just their striking colour (a true photographer’s delight ), but how cleverly they live:
They bask in the sun to warm their bodies
Always staying close to a crevice for a quick escape
Often living in small family groups, returning to the same rock shelters over time
It’s a reminder that even the smallest creatures are deeply connected to the landscape — and every rock, crevice, and native habitat matters.
When we protect and appreciate places like the Flinders, we’re not just preserving scenery… we’re protecting entire little worlds like this one.
And honestly… this is what makes South Australia so special.
Moments you don’t plan.
Wildlife you don’t expect. Beauty that just appears.
If you’re planning a visit, we recommend allowing at least 4 days plus to explore the Flinders Ranges — then begin or end your journey with a relaxing stay in one of our homes in Gawler or Adelaide.
At Adelaide Style Accommodation, we love sharing local stories, supporting eco-friendly travel, and helping you experience SA like a local — with comfort, space and care.
