Did you know that on 21 June 1962 (64 years ago), what was then known as Para Wirra National Park was officially proclaimed, helping to protect this special piece of South Australia for generations to come?

Today, it's a wonderful time to reflect on the vision of those who recognised the importance of conserving this beautiful landscape. Imagine how many native trees, wildflowers, orchids, birds, reptiles, insects and other wildlife have flourished over the past 64 years because of that decision.

Today, Para Wirra Conservation Park is a much-loved destination for families, walkers, nature lovers and photographers. With picnic areas, wildlife spotting opportunities and a range of walking trails, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

Huge thanks to volunteers of Friends Of Para Wirra Conservation Park who make it what it is today.

One of the park's highlights is the walk to Devils Nose Lookout, where you're rewarded with breathtaking views across the landscape towards Gawler, the Barossa and beyond. Whether you're looking for a leisurely stroll, a family day out or a chance to reconnect with nature, Para Wirra offers a beautiful escape close to Adelaide.

As you explore the park today, take a moment to appreciate the foresight of those who helped protect it all those years ago. Their decision continues to benefit wildlife, visitors and future generations alike.
