Welcome to Waikerie’s Silo Art, where two towering works of art celebrate the heartbeat of the Murray River and the fragile ecosystem that surrounds it.
Just 1.5 hours from our Country Style Louisa home in Gawler and around 2 hours from our Adelaide City homes, this powerful public artwork—“Healthy River, Healthy Community”—is a must-see.
Created by:
Jimmy DVate (Melbourne) – showcasing the endangered Regent Parrot, Murray Hardyhead fish, and other local species.
Garry Duncan (South Australia, Kanmantoo) – with a sweeping river landscape filled with turtles, frogs, and the iconic Rain Moth.
Fun fact: Waikerie is named after the Rain Moth, which emerges with the rain and lives just 24 hours—a symbol of life’s delicate balance.
As you explore the murals, take time to read the signs explaining the ecological importance of each painted species. This isn’t just art—it’s a call to protect what matters most: our environment.
Planning a Riverland getaway?
Make it a scenic day trip from one of our homes—or stay longer and explore the beauty of Waikerie and the Riverland. Whether you relax before or after in our award-winning self-contained homes in Gawler or Adelaide City, your journey will be as memorable as the destination.
