🖨️ Step back in time at the historic Peterborough Times Printing Office, built in 1887 and now lovingly operated as a working museum by the dedicated History Group. Set out exactly as it was throughout the 20th century until 2001, the print shop features original presses, inks, tools, paper stock, old templates and thousands of printed items. What was once layered with grease and grit has now been carefully cleaned, restored and preserved for future generations — a true labour of love by passionate volunteers, supported by the local council. After eight years of dedication, the museum reopened in October 2015, with an interpretive centre added to provide hands-on experiences in the art of letterpress printing. It’s incredible to see how this elaborate engineering paved the way for the typewriter and our modern forms of communication — a time when newspapers and posters were the ‘internet’ of their day, connecting entire communities.
