Wow… what a crowd!  Despite a little rain on 8 May, it certainly didn’t deter the many people keen to step back in time and join Dr Barry Blundell APM from the South Australian Police Historical Society on a fascinating walking tour through historic Port Adelaide.
Murders, mysteries, robberies, stories of policing in the early days… and glimpses into harder times when finding work (or not finding work) could shape lives. One of the highlights was the audio shared along the route — helping transport visitors back to another era and imagine life as it once was.
Walking around Port Adelaide also serves as a reminder of how incredible South Australia’s history is — beautiful heritage buildings, public art, stories hidden in streets we may otherwise walk past.
A special mention too to the Port Adelaide Visitor Information Centre — well worth popping into for local information, gifts and keepsakes to remember your visit.
Enjoy the short video we created from our tour
Have you attended an event as part of SA History Festival this year? We’d love to hear what you discovered.
May is History Month in South Australia — perhaps it’s time to plan a visit, explore somewhere new, and make a weekend of it. Or simply enjoy a quiet winter retreat while discovering the stories that helped shape our state.
