History Friday - Unveiling Hart’s Mill: A Historic Gem of Port Adelaide

Hart’s Mill, an iconic symbol of Port Adelaide’s rich heritage, stands as a testament to resilience and innovation. Established in 1855 by Captain John Hart and Henry Kent Hughes, this historic site, with its impressive red brick mill and state-of-the-art steam engines, played a key role in South Australia’s flour industry and gained a reputation for quality flour across the British Empire.

Even a devastating fire in 1905 couldn’t dampen its legacy; the mill was rebuilt and continued its operations until 1980. Today, Hart’s Mill proudly represents the industrious spirit of South Australia.
