We spent the day in Goolwa on the Fleurieu Peninsula and honestly — it was just beautiful. Sunshine, fresh air, pelicans gliding overhead and that relaxed coastal feeling you wish you could bottle up.
We stopped in for lunch at Imbiss on the Elbow on the Goolwa Wharf — such a great find. Sitting there watching the boats come and go while enjoying authentic German food (and a stein of beer ) felt pretty special. The food, the view, the atmosphere… all just worked. At the Imbiss on the Elbow you can enjoy Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan German beer — the world’s oldest brewery, established in 1040 — served in traditional steins. It’s a little taste of Germany right here in Goolwa, connecting global cultures while you soak in local history.
There was such a lovely buzz around the wharf too, with visitors boarding the Spirit of the Murray and the Spirit of the Coorong — and how exciting to see Spirit of the Coorong recently take out GOLD at the National Tourism Awards
After lunch, we wandered through some of the local galleries and soaked up the charm of the town — there’s so much to see and do, or just… enjoy.
Goolwa is just over an hour from Adelaide, making it the perfect day trip — or even better, a little getaway.
