🌳 Tree Tuesday – From Roots to Wings 🦋

While our 600 native seedlings have now been lovingly handed back to Trees For Life (SA), our commitment to nurturing the #environment continues in many ways—including through butterflies.

Just over 2 years ago, we created a Butterfly Garden at our Close to City home in North Adelaide. It’s more than just a pretty space—it's a place of learning, awareness, and connection to nature. We’ve shared information on butterfly species, their role as pollinators, and how guests can help support their habitat at home too.

Today’s Tree Tuesday photo features something that often surprises people—a large caterpillar munching on the leaves of our lemon and lime trees. While you might instinctively want to remove it, we encourage you to pause… because this little visitor is likely a citrus butterfly caterpillar, which relies on citrus trees as its host plant.

🦋 Without this important phase of leaf-eating caterpillar life, there is no butterfly. It’s all part of a vital cycle.

Butterflies are not only beautiful—they're essential. As pollinators, they help plants (including native trees!) reproduce, and they’re indicators of a healthy, balanced ecosystem.

So next time you spot a caterpillar on your citrus tree, remember: you might just be playing host to the next fluttering beauty in your garden.
