Today we honour the rainforests—Earth’s lungs and home to over half of the world’s plant and animal species. While the tropics may be far away, you can experience the magic of a rainforest right here in South Australia.
📍 At the @Adelaide Botanic Gardens, the iconic #Conservatory and Fern Gully showcase the beauty and biodiversity of our planet’s oldest ecosystems. Did you know?
“Ferns are one of our most ancient plants, their ancestors greening the earth 350 million years ago. Their coiled fiddleheads unfurl into fronds, producing spores instead of seeds. These spores cling to the underside of fronds before dispersing and forming gametophytes—a green carpet where reproduction occurs. Around 400 species of ferns thrive in this gully, planted in the 1980s.”
It’s a living reminder of nature’s resilience, diversity, and calm.
🌱 If we all take time to acknowledge days like this—by learning, sharing, and appreciating the natural world—our collective awareness can help preserve it. Just like we cherish our holidays, let’s cherish the ecosystems that make them possible.
📸 Visiting South Australia? Be sure to stroll through the Botanic Gardens and immerse yourself in nature.
